WiFi SPARK Has Been Upgraded in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme

The Armed Forces Covenant ensures those who have served in the military and their families are treated equally, fairly and with respect. The Covenant helps members of the armed forces community have the same access to government and commercial services as any other citizen.


They created the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme to encourage employers to support the Covenant and inspire others to do the same. It relies on the people, communities and businesses in the UK to make a difference. Here at WiFi SPARK, we actively support this cause, acknowledging the transferable skills veterans and service leavers have to offer and offering them employment opportunities.


We’re honoured to employ Steve Winterburn, who served 19 years as a former Royal Marine Commando. He utilises his technical knowledge, leadership skills and experience from his military career as an Installations Supervisor. 


We also employ Martin Oliver, a former Royal Engineer. He served 13 years and now travels the country as a Service Engineer at WiFi SPARK. They both contribute to the continuing success of the business and are valued members of the team.

Another company employee , Chief Operating Officer Ian Lynch has also served 14 years as a former Chief Petty Officer Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy. Leading the delivery, support and technical aspects of the business, Ian and his team continue to drive WiFi SPARK’s operational performance ever higher.

The Employer Recognition Scheme recently thanked us for our ongoing support and has increased us to the Silver ERS award. 


Commenting on the announcement, Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace said: “These awards recognise the outstanding support for our armed forces from employers across Britain and I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one.


“Regardless of size, location or sector, employing ex-forces personnel is good for business

and this year we have doubled the number of awards in recognition of the fantastic support

they give.”


Matt O’Donovan, CEO and Ian Lynch COO for WiFi SPARK attended the Lord Lieutenant Award Ceremony this week where we were presented with our award certificate. We will continue to support this wonderful cause, working closely with Minister for Defence People and Veterans Johnny Mercer to further understand the huge value that veterans, reservists and military spouses can bring to our organisation.
