Caerphilly County Borough Council has been a customer with WiFi SPARK for 4 years after initially selecting WiFi SPARK as the winning bidder in a competitive tender in 2016.
WiFi SPARK originally implemented free WiFi into the main council buildings for the council offices. Since then, free WiFi has been rolled out into more areas including libraries, new council offices and the sports centre in Caerphilly town centre.
This new installation sees filtered WiFi over 1,800 WiFi access points across all schools within the borough in time for their re-opening on June 29.
Pupils and Teachers in schools across the Caerphilly county borough are now benefitting from fast and effective WiFi coverage thanks to major investment by the council to deliver digital excellence in the classroom.
The new service allows pupils and staff to use their own devices within a safe and filtered environment.
Head Teachers involved in the childcare hubs over recent months have enjoyed the benefits of having free WiFi available in schools and suggested that it be an extremely positive move if similar facilities could be available in all schools.
Cllr Barbara Jones, Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said, “This has been a fantastic piece of work carried out by staff across the Education and Corporate Services Directorate. With staff and pupils now being able to access free WiFi, we hope to see an improvement in digital services which will support educational, recreational and information provisions; as well as easier access to educational platforms such as SeeSaw and Hwb Platform.”
Cllr Colin Gordon, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services added, “As a result of some incredible work done by staff in our Customer and Digital Services teams over the last few days, I am delighted to confirm that guest WiFi has been enabled across all schools. I’d like to thank our partners at WiFi SPARK for their support in helping us achieve this as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
WiFi SPARK is working with the Council to provide free WiFi to other areas in the Borough, including the town centre and Blackwood high street, soon to be finished later this year.
